PONY PULLING CONTESTS
Friday

Entries close prior to pull.
Same rules as horse pulling.
Weigh-in is at 7:00 AM, Friday for all pony classes.
Classes will be held in horse pulling ring.

NOTE: All premiums will be paid out.

Class 1.

All Teams must have in their possession paper of a valid negative Coggin’s Test conducted within six (6) months prior to pull and a current rabies certificate and Certificate of Insurance of $1,000,000. Releases must be signed to be in pulling ring. Teamster and one helper enter at no charge.

RULES TO GOVERN HORSE PULLING

  1. Entries close prior to Class.
  2. All teamsters to compete in contest shall have their teams ready at the published time. All classes will close at the completion of the first heat in each class,
  3. All horses to compete in contest other than free-for-all teams, shall be weighed-in same day contest is to be held. All horses will be weighed in the presence of a delegate appointed by the fair or person who is conducting the contest. The delegate shall affix a number on each horse.
  4. Starting loads of 4,000 lbs. for all light classes, starting load of 5,000 on all free-for-all classes. Added loads in each class at the discretion of the judges depending on type of pit.
  5. Measuring starting point of boat shall be properly marked to indicate same starting point for all loads, the distance of each draw will be measured from the center of the boat to the starting pin. The boat shall be returned to the pin after each hitch. All teams will be allowed 3 hitches to make the draw.
  6. Time limit – There will be a time limit of 5 minutes for each hitch. Powder Puff classes will have a time limit of 3 minutes for each hitch. The time will be kept by the announcer or appointed timekeeper.
  7. What constitutes a hitch – Nothing less than 1 inch.
  8. Unhitching after each hitch. Each team will be disconnected from the boat and will leave the pit before entering for the next hitch.
  9. Break-down – An actual separation, breaking or bending of equipment shall constitute a breakdown. Chains, straps or eveners not properly secured are not considered a break-down.
  10. Over-the-rail – If a horse’s foot goes outside the rail the hitch is disqualified. Teams must remain within the rails while hitched to the boat.
  11. Any team deliberately driven over the rail will be disqualified from the contest.
  12. Heading – There will be no heading of horses whatsoever. Horses to be driven by one teamster only.
  13. Horses and ponies shall not have the reins or any other device used as a whip. Eastern draft rules.
  14. Appearance – All participants will be properly dressed including work boots. NO SNEAKERS
  15. Language – All effort shall be made to use proper language in and around the ring.
  16. Drinking – Any participant under the influence of liquor will be disqualified from contest. The drinking of intoxicating beverages in and around the ring is prohibited.
  17. Authorized persons in ring – One teamster and two hitchers per team.
  18. Interference of Evener Men – No assistance other than hitching.
  19. Changing of Classes – Classes shall be as publicized only.
  20. Switching Horses – Once a team has been weighed or entered there will be no switching of horses. An owner may use any horse in any class provided he is entered as such. Split owner teams may not compete in any Classes.
  21. In case of ties, owners will divide the premium and toss for the ribbon.
  22. Any situations that may arise and are not covered by these rules, the decision will be left to the discretion of the judges.
  23. Any variation of these rules shall be in the spirit of aforesaid rules and at the discretion of the judges.
  24. Doping and Stimulating – See New Hampshire statutes 443:90
  25. Violation of any rule will automatically disqualify owners and teams from all pulling contests. In all cases the judges’ decision will be final.
  26. All contestants will sign a release of responsibility and provide a certificate of liability insurance in minimum amount of $1,000,000 and must be in their possession!
  27. All teams must produce current Coggin’s Test papers!

**NOTE**

All horses and ponies can leave the grounds after they have weighed in.  All weights will carry throughout the fair.

HORSE PULLERS ONLY

  1. All Teams must have in their possession, a valid negative Coggin’s Test conducted within six (6) months prior to pull and a current rabies certificate and Certificate of Insurance of $1,000,000 minimum to pull.
  2. Teamster and one helper enter at no charge.
  3. Trucks/trailers with horses will be allowed through the gate without stickers.
  4. A RED VEHICLE STICKER MUST BE ON ALL OTHER VEHICLES TO COME ONTO THE FAIRGROUNDS. VEHICLES WITHOUT STICKERS ARE SUBJECT TO BE TOWED AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. PLEASE USE THE RED GATE.
